Common House Hold Items That Are Poisonous To Your Cat

Many common objects are poisonous to cats, some of which are more obvious than others. It is important to be aware of these poisonous items so you can contact a veterinarian if your cat ingests one. Human foods that particularly poisonous and lethal to cats include onions, chives, garlic, raisins, and grapes. Foods containing chocolate, alcohol, caffeine, and yeast dough also act as poison to cats.

Poisonous Indoor and Outdoor Plants

Cats love to chew on green foliage whenever they get a chance! Many common indoor and outdoor plants are toxic to cats and may even be lethal. Common house plants that are toxic to cats include most lilies, aloe vera plants, jade plants, English ivy, and poinsettias. Household Items Toxic to Cats

Household cleaning items such as toilet cleaners, drain cleaners, and laundry detergent, as well as other household chemical cleaners, are toxic to cats. Keep your cat out of the room when using these items and try to use non-toxic cleaners whenever possible.

Other items to consider are human medications, including aspirin and ibuprofen, antidepressants, flea and tick control products, insecticides and pesticides, antifreeze, de-icing products, and other chemicals. Look for products that are safe for use around pets.
